Work

Websters 1828 Dictionary:



  • 1. In a general sense, to move, or to move one way and the other; to perform; as in popular language it is said, a mill or machine works well.
  • 2. To labor; to be occupied in performing manual labor, whether severe or moderate. One man works better than another; one man works hare; another works lazily.
  • 3. To be in action or motion; as the working of the heart.

    • Scriptures:

     Isaiah 59:6 Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.
     I think this means that the works of man are sin and weakness. We can do all things though Gods hand.
     3 Nephi 21:9 For in that day, for my sake shall the Father work a work, which shall be a great and a marvelous work among them; and there shall be among them those who will not believe it, although a man shall declare it unto them.
    I saw this scripture so many times in so many places. I believe it means that Heavenly Father is hastening the work. And some of us will not believe it, even thought it has been declared unto us by a wise man, a Prophet of God.
     Psalms 90:17 And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

    Moses 1:39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
    I thought these two scriptures went along well together. Because the second one tells us what God's work is. And the first one says that God's work should be our work.

    Working, the act of action. Laboring for results.
