Charity

Websters 1828 Dictionary:

1. In a general sense, love, benevolence, good will; that disposition of heart which inclines men to think favorably of their fellow men to think favorably of their fellow men, and to do them good. In a theological sense, it includes supreme love to God, and universal good will to men.

Quotes:

"Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance."
-Francis of Assisi
“Love is one of the chief characteristics of Deity, and ought to be manifested by those who aspire to be the sons of God. A man filled with the love of God, is not content with blessing his family alone, but ranges through the whole world, anxious to bless the whole human race.”
-Joseph Smith

“The rich cannot be saved without charity, giving to feed the poor when and how God requires.” -Joseph Smith

Scriptures:

Moroni 7:45-47
And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—
But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.

My personal definition:

Charity, the pure love of Christ. This really makes me want to do a word study on pure Christ loves us all, and he has a pure love for us. Charity is a really hard thing to get. Can we ever love someone THAT much? I'm not sure. There is a lot more to charity than love, and those scriptures in Moroni pretty much sum it up. Charity is not life in the clouds. It is work, it is pain, and it is worth it!
