My Word Study On Courage

Websters 1828 Dictionary:
COURAGE, n. [L., the heart.] Bravery; intrepidity; that quality of mind which enables men to encounter danger and difficulties with firmness, or without fear or depression of spirits; valor; boldness; resolution. It is a constituent part of fortitude; but fortitude implies patience to bear continued suffering.

Scriptures:
Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Alma 53:20-21
And they were all young men, and they were exceedingly valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity; but behold, this was not all—they were men who were true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted.
Yea, they were men of truth and soberness, for they had been taught to keep the commandments of God and to walk uprightly before him.

Quotes:
~“Courage is the word we need to hear and hold near our hearts—courage to turn our backs on temptation, courage to lift up our voices in testimony to all whom we meet, remembering that everyone must have an opportunity to hear the message.”(-President Monson Nov 2012 "Love, Joy, and Inspiration)
~This type of hope in God, His goodness, and His power refreshes us with courage during difficult challenges and gives strength to those who feel threatened by enclosing walls of fear, doubt, and despair.(President Uchdorf New Era, Christ, our hope)

Songs:
Nephi's Courage (Children's song book page 120)
"I will go I will do the things the Lord commands, I know the Lord provides a way He wants me to obey, I will go , I will do, the things the Lord commands, I know the Lord provides a way He wants me to obey!

My Thoughts:
Courage can be like faith, and the opposite of Faith/Courage is fear. But like it says in Timothy God doesn't give us fear he gives us faith and courage. When we feel fear we know it comes from Satan. Often when I am afraid my mom simply says "Where is your fear coming from?" That phrase often gives me courage. When Christ was on the earth He must have needed courage. There is no way He could have done all he did in fear. Because of His wonderful, pure, and perfect example, I can have courage too!!
